Big Noon Kickoff in Hub City!

On November 9, Saddle Tramps had the opportunity to participate in Fox Sports’ on-campus Big Noon Kickoff show. The call time was 7:20 am, and Tramps showed up on time with enthusiasm and energy. We took some pictures for Texas Tech’s social media and photos and videos with the cheerleaders and Masked Rider. Some Tramps were selected to be a part of the hype crew. Bells were being rung, people were on shoulders, shotguns were shot, tortillas were thrown, and there was a lot of yelling and hype dances. Other Tramps were with Saddle Tramp President Mitchell Smith from Rockwall, Texas; his major was Business Management, and he is currently studying for his MBA. They were ringing their bells while he rang Bertha. The crowd was constantly throwing tortillas and was loud and energetic. At the end of the event, former Alabama running back and Saints, Ravens, and Texans player Mark Ingram II was given the opportunity to shoot the shotguns, and the event ended shortly afterwards.

Later in the day, Tramps had the football game against the Colorado Buffaloes at 3 p.m., but the call time was noon. Although Tramps were coming from the Big Noon Kickoff, they still brought hype and excitement to the game against Colorado. Tramps debuted our new Black Work shirts for the Colorado game, and we will continue to wear them for football and basketball Blackout games as another way to connect with the crowd. For the game, Cole Cameron, who’s from Ropesville and majoring in Political Science, did an excellent job at ringing Bertha, and the group of guys on the push-up board did a great job and brought more hype to the crowd. Tramps were hyped, energetic bells were rung, and some were broken. The crowd at the game was so lively, and like, at Big Noon Kickoff, many tortillas were thrown along with other items, leading to the crowd getting out of hand and reprimanded by head coach Joey McGuire. The Texas Tech football team played hard and gave it their best. The game had everyone on the edge of their seats. The crowd went wild when Tahj Brooks broke the record for career rushing yards with 4,236 career rushing yards. He surpassed former Red Raider Byron Hanspard’s record by 17 yards. Although they played hard and gave their best, we still came up short and lost the game. They were a great opponent, and we are excited to play them again in the future and beat them.

The basketball season recently started, and Tech is off to a great start. We are currently 4-0. This week, Texas Tech beat the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions 98 to 64. The crowd at the games is always enthusiastic, and Tramps do a great job interacting with them to get them more hyped. At the moment, Tech is not ranked but is number 26 and needs a few more votes to be in the top 25 AP polls.
