On October 11th, Texas Tech faced off against the University of Kansas at home and won to
remain undefeated at 6-0. The game was all the hype, with it being the Homecoming game
and all the preparation for the game in general. The Saddle Tramps were dressed in black
per the Blackout Game. The football team put up record numbers as Cameron Dickey, the
current running back, ran for 263 yards and two long touchdowns. Then, Will Hammond
stepped in as quarterback for Behren Morton in the second half, scoring twice to end the
game, making the score 42-17. After this game, Texas Tech was ranked seventh in the
country by the Associated Press poll.
A week later, on October 18th, Texas Tech played against Arizona State in Arizona, handing
us our first loss of the season to put our record at 6-1. ASU effectively shut down our run
game, and our passing game never really hit the mark. Despite this, we did take the lead 22-
19 with two minutes left in the game, but ASU came back to score the winning touchdown,
making the final score 22-26. After this loss, the AP poll pushed us out of the top ten into
the top 15, with Texas Tech Red Raiders sitting at 14.
At the same time as the Arizona State game, the Saddle Tramps hosted a mixer with the
multicultural sorority, Lambda Delta Psi. It was a fun-filled event, where we had a
competition to see which group had the best pumpkin. Each group was comprised of one
member from each organization, as a way for everyone to get to know each other better.
The winning pumpkin was carved by Saddle Tramp Active Jax Wisdom from Fall 24’ . His
pumpkin was impressive and unique by using the seeds and guts from the pumpkin to
create a throw-up effect for his carving. We also watched the Arizona State game at the
same time, which led to everyone staring at the TV during the impactful moments of the
game.
