This past Saturday, Texas Tech Football earned a thrilling victory over the Utah Utes
in what started out as a defensive showdown. Both teams' defenses stood tall for most of
the game, making every possession hard fought and every yard critical. In the fourth
quarter, with the game hanging in the balance and Behren Morton out, Redshirt freshman
Will Hammond delivered an electric showcase late in the quarter that broke the stalemate
and sealed the win for the Red Raiders. His late game heroics sent the Red Raider’s into
celebration, securing a hard-earned triumph against a Top 25 opponent and pushing the
team to a top 15 spot in the AP pole at #12. The last time Texas Tech was ranked 12th was
during their 2008 season.
Adding to the excitement, Fox Sports’ Big Noon Kickoff was live from the game,
bringing national attention and energy to the matchup. For the second consecutive season,
Texas Tech was featured on Fox’s premier college football pregame show, which previously
broadcasted from the Texas Tech campus in Lubbock last year when the Red Raiders took
on Colorado. Having Big Noon Kickoff on site not only put Texas Tech in the national
spotlight once again, but also created a memorable atmosphere for fans, alumni, and
players alike, continuing a growing tradition of seeing the Red Raiders showcased on one of
college football’s biggest stages.
Later that same day, Saddle Tramps hosted a mixer with the members of AOE, a
woman in engineering sorority, who are also our homecoming partners for this season. At
this mixer, Saddle Tramps assembled flares for the homecoming bonfire that is held the
night before Homecoming, while AOE created the Broadway Board that will be displayed by
the entrance of campus for the week of Homecoming.
Until next week’s edition of The Bell Ringer, Wreck’em Tech!
