The Turn Around

Good Thursday Red Raider Nation! Hope your having a great week so far! Here's what's been happening in Lubbock!

Saddle Tramp News:

We have pledge retreat this weekend! Spring 2020 will get their pledge class name, song, and bond as a pledge class! Caleb Harris, Jose Andrade, Colby Killian, Trent Bell, and Holden Jackola after this weekend will be that much closer to being official Saddle Tramps!

We've got some big changes in the works for our Saddle Tramp Alumni. We're not quite ready to announce it yet but be on the look out for an announcement soon!

Saddle Tramp of the Week: Matt Brown

Matt comes to Tech from Melissa, Texas. He came to Texas Tech because it felt like home to him. Matt rushed Saddle Tramps because he wanted to be part of a spirit organization. He rushed Saddle Tramps in the Fall of 2019 and is part of the Night's Watch. Matt serves on this semester's pledge staff while also serving on the Eval Committee. A fun fact about Matt is he played Golf for 10 years and placed 5th overall in the UIL State Tournament. Matt's advice for future Tech Freshmen is to learn how to manage your time well.

Sports:

The Baseball team is already heating up and they're not slowing down any time soon! They kicked off the season by scoring 65 runs, allowing 11, Nate Rombach is the Big 12 Player of the Week AND the National Player of the Week, and Jace Jung is the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. The team ranks 1st in batting average with a .438, 1st in On Base % with a .565, 1st in Slugging % with a .792, 1st in Home Runs with 12, and 2nd in Runs Per Game with 16.3. And did we mention that the Red Raider Baseball Team is now #1 IN THE NATION!!! This is a great time to get to Lubbock for a weekend and watch the Baseball team Wreck 'Em!!

The Red Raider Basketball team turned things around last night against Kansas State winning 69-62. With that win, the team is just two wins away from securing a spot in the Tournament according to RPI Metrics. Obviously seeding is based on performance in the rest of the season and the Big 12 Tourney. If we had to guess, we'll probably be a 8 or 9 seed. If we win out, we could potentially be the 4 seed in a favorable quarter of the bracket. It's been a rocky season but realistically this is a great team and its not over yet. It'll be interesting to see where we place in the tourney but don't give up on the Red Raiders!
